baby acid reflux: how can I train my baby's esophagus value to close?
my baby: 2mo 9# has acid reflux. She is on Zantac (o.7ml/2x day) and I heard that you can train the esophagus value [lower esophageal sphincter (LES)] to properly close instead of periodically relaxes and allow reflux to occur.
for adults, this is a method for training, what is it for babies :
"The third thing you can do is train the valve to stay closed. I got this from a doctor. First thing in the morning, drink 8 oz water on an empty stomach. Then raise up on your toes and set back down on your heels quickly, to make the stomach drop. Do this 11 times. It forces the valve at the neck of the esophagus closed. To see this work, fill a balloon with water and hold it by the neck, bounce it. Same principal."
I have never heard of being able to train the LES. I know it's something they will grow out of, as I am going through the same thing with my baby. My doctor has given approval to thicken the formula with a small amount of rice cereal to help prevent the reflux along with the Zantac, it does help, but we only do it about 2 or 3 times a day.
