Baking Soda Heartburn Pregnant

Bad dr's visit. Advice please.?

I am 38.6 wks pregnant and had to see a nurse today b/c my dr is on vacation. I have been having really bad BH contractions for sometime now but they got really bad a couple days ago. I have had EXTREME pain due to round ligaments and the baby moving. Sometimes I can't walk. I went in today and I am very upset. The nurse didn't even check me with my feet in the stir-ups and she said I was 1cm. The last two wks my dr said that I was 3 1/2 cm! Can you go backwards? Also she was rushing me around and I think it's b/c I am not one of her patients. I have been crying since I left. I am so sick of being pregnant! I have had migraines, SPD, and heartburn so bad that I have to drink baking soda water to keep from vomiting! This is my second pregnancy and I love being a mom but I HATE being pregnant. I just can't wait to see my little girl so that I will forget about all of this! They say you miss being pregnant but I won't and I didn't with my first!

First of all, you are soooo close! Hang in there! You do not need stirrups to perform a sterile vaginal exam. As for the discrepency in exams, you will have to discuss that with your physician, but truly it doesn't matter since you aren't actually in labor yet. Your nurse was very insensative and probably did rush you, they get so used to the "job", that they forget the patients. You need to be your own advocate and let them know what you need. It is unfortunate that you have to tell your health care providers to pay attention to you, but sometimes you have to.

Here is the good news. You are almost there. You WILL go into labor soon, and it will be great. At 39 weeks, it seems like you can't go on, I know. But hang in there. A weird bit of advice, try fresh pineapple. I am a labor nurse and have NEVER heard this. But I did it with my third pregnancy when I was 39+4 and the next day I went into labor! HOLY COW! I can't believe it worked!

Get a pedicure. That will make you feel better atleast for a little while. I loved having my feet massaged when I was as big as a house and couldn't reach my toes! Good luck

Treating Hiatal Hernia Symptoms Doesn't Have To Be Like Boot Camp

A hiatal hernia (also known as hiatus hernia) occurs when part of the stomach, or the lower part of the esophagus and part of the stomach, push through the hiatus in the diaphragm (the muscle separating the abdomen and chest). This can happen either because of being born with a large hiatus (hole) or because of injury or accident or because of pressure if you are overweight or are pregnant. Hiatal hernias are also common in those with GERDs disease.

In some cases patients are unaware they have had a hiatal hernia and it is only discovered by a doctor performing an xray.  Others seek out help due to painful hiatal hernia symptoms.

Chest pain and heartburn are the most common hiatal hernia symptoms. Chest pain felt behind the breastbone can be due to the hernia itself as things are out of place.  It can also be caused by heartburn due to reflux and backflow of stomach acid and stomach contents.

If you have a hiatal hernia you may have read about painful surgery as treatment for your hiatal hernia symptoms.  You may have heard about natural remedies and programs that sound more like boot camp than anything else! But treatment for your hiatal hernia symptoms doesn't have to be this scary or tough. Natural programs for curing hiatal hernia symptoms doesn't have to mean hours slaving away in the gym, starving yourself or taking revolting concoctions.

Treatment is important as left untreated, acid reflux from the stomach can eat away at the lining of esophagus and can also result in damage of the voice box and even asthma. Below are a few ways to incorporate effective natural treatments of hiatal hernia symptoms in a more enjoyable way.

Exercise
You may be advised to exercise to help maintain a high level of health and to combat hiatal hernia symptoms, but this doesn't have to mean grueling push ups and lifting weights. Instead, try walking. Walk with friends or family members after meals and enjoy the outdoors. Even 20-45 minutes every other day can do wonders. If you do decide to go to the gym, use it as an opportunity to make new friends and then treat yourself to a massage afterwards.

Diet
Diet is a huge part of treatment for hiatal hernia symptoms. This doesn't have to mean starving yourself or eating foods you just can't stand. True, it may mean cutting out some foods that you have enjoyed, or at least limiting them, but use this as an opportunity to explore new foods, try new exciting recipes and incorporate new ingredients into your meals. This can be fun and can also be healthier for the whole family and make meal times more interesting.

Natural Remedies
Natural remedies are a powerful and safe way for treating hiatal hernia symptoms. This doesn't mean having to drink any crazy medicine tasting mixes or worse. Apple cider vinegar and mustard are used by some. But natural remedies for hiatal hernia symptoms can also include experiencing new teas, tea with honey or ginger and simple things such a baking soda and water or chewing gum after eating.
