Your stomach has a sphincter muscle at the top, that opens and closes to let food in and out. When this is not working 100%, food and stomach acid can get back into the esophagus - the tube from mouth to stomach). while the stomach can cope with acid fine - this tube is not made to deal with acid, gets irritated and this is the heartburn feeling.

It can be more likely if you are pregnant, overweight, or exercise or lie down after eating. Eating too much food or drink at once also contributes.Certains foods can be more likely to stimulate it esp if u are prone.

Coffee**,alcohol, fatty,or spicy foods, very hot foods - these can all contribute to heartburn.

Banana - Avoid the stringy bits at the side - these are very fibrous, harder to digest so may aggrevate it - do not avoid bananas :) they are generally a brilliant snack.

Cut down on the coffee, even decaf. have a weak tea with milk, herbal tea - or just have one coffee and see how u are :)

Millions Seek Heartburn Relief

Millions of people around the world seek heartburn relief. This condition usually affects older people and rarely younger people. These people might first seek heartburn relief after a spicy meal at an ethnic restaurant, and these people might first think that they are suffering from a heart attack. Heartburn relief is necessary for people who suffer from rare occurrences of this condition, but other people require heartburn relief for this condition when it occurs often during the week. The people with one episode of heartburn or acid indigestion after a spicy meal might just avoid that type of meal, or they might take some antacids with them for heartburn relief.

Heartburn relief should be a matter of prevention if possible. Certain foods produce heartburn and certain foods counteract the build up of acid that causes heartburn. Spicy meals can definitely be the trigger of heartburn, but other foods that might seem very good for the health can also be the cause of heartburn. Some citrus fruits including oranges are often recommended for a healthy diet, but these fruits can cause heartburn in some people. Those affected by oranges will want to substitute apples or bananas for some of the citrus fruits. Rich, creamy desserts may cause heartburn so people should avoid these if they have the painful symptoms of heartburn.

Heartburn Relief Comes From Medication Or Lifestyle Changes

Antacid tablets or syrups can be very effective in providing heartburn relief, and there are some excellent medications that help bring about heartburn relief. Prilosec is an example of a medication that can help those with heartburn. This medication is fairly new to the market, and it is now available over-the-counter. When this medication first came out, it was available only with a prescription from a doctor. This medication is known as a proton pump inhibitor. This medication controls the production and flow of acid from the stomach into the esophagus.

Heartburn relief can come from other steps to change or control factors that might affect this condition. People who smoke should try to stop to find relief from this condition. Those people who consume alcoholic beverages should quit drinking to find out if this will cure their heartburn. Stress can produce heartburn so people should try to rid their lives of things that produce stress. Although heartburn can be very painful and frightening, those affected should be happy to know that there is relief from the symptoms of this condition.
