Does Heartburn Cause Chest Pain

What does heartburn feel like?
What does heartburn feel like? I woke up in the middle of the night with this terrible pain, not in my throat, not in my chest, but in sort of in between, like in my esophogus I guess? It was like a million sharp needles poking from the inside out all at once, in bursts, maybe about 6 or 7 times, bad enough that it would make me bolt up due to the pain. Is that heartburn? What causes it? I didn't eat anything out of the ordinary yesterday. I've never felt that in my life before!
I have Acid Reflux (chronic heartburn) I usually get a weird taste in my mouth and pain in my throat but there are many symptoms of heartburn.
* A burning feeling in the chest just behind the breastbone that occurs after eating and lasts a few minutes to several hours.
* Chest pain, especially after bending over, lying down or eating.
* Burning in the throat -- or hot, sour, acidic or salty-tasting fluid at the back of the throat.
* Difficulty swallowing.
* Feeling of food "sticking" in the middle of the chest or throat.
* Heartburn may cause chronic cough, sore throat, or chronic hoarseness.
Sharp pain in your esophagus could be heartburn but it could also be more serious. Since you don't usually get hearburn and you didn't eat anything out of the ordinary, I doubt it's heartburn. And did you try taking an antacid like tums or over the counter acid blocker like zantac? If it went away with heartburn medicine, it was probably heartburn. But, if this happens again, I would diffidently talk to your doctor. They can help you figure out what's causing this and help you manage it.
Sharp pain in the esophagus is not something taken lightly by medical professionals. If your pain was that bad you should seek medical attention immediately. It could be something serious.
