Heartburn After Exercise
Heartburn After Exercise
Exercise might be making me sick.?

I have been getting sick a lot this year, and I pretty much always feel like crap. I am at the gym 6 days a week. I run all six of those days, and I weight train on four of them. I run 2 1/2 miles in 20 minutes, and on my weight training days I follow the run with a full body workout that takes me about 1 1/2 hours. I make sure to eat plenty w/protein supplements after each workout, and I stay well hydrated. But I often have heartburn after my workouts, and I just feel slightly ill most days. My workouts are pretty intense, but I am a 19 year old guy, so I figure I can handle it. Any suggestions about my routine or ideas would be appreciated.

There is really no reason you need to be working out at that level. Your body needs to recuperate between sessions. The key to exercise is quality, not quantity. Working out more is not necessarily better. Is your regimen developed by a trainer? I'm just concerned because a very dear friend of mine became seriously ill from working out to much (and was under the supervision of a trainer!). This was after she told me about the guy she sees at the gym everyday working too hard and collapsed. Are you working out just to stay in shape, because you enjoy it or for athletics? In any event, if you haven't, ask for a consult with a PT at your gym and like the person mentioned above, check with your doctor to make sure everything's up to snuff. Your health is what is most important and what's the point of working out all the time if the rest of the day you pretty much feel like crap? Take Care.

"Revealed: 4 Secrets To Control Your Heartburn"

Do you ever wonder what causes that burning feeling in your chest after you eat?  Do you suffer excruciating pains and wonder what you can do about it?  Well here’s a quick list of 4 secrets to control you heartburn that you can start using right now and none of them cost you a cent and some of them will even save you money!

Have a read and try them out and reduce or even prevent your heartburn just by following these simple steps:

1. Exercise after eating: Now exercise is good and it’ll have lots of other benefits which will help to reduce your heart burn like weight loss…but if you’ve just had a big meal and then go for a jog, your body tends t have a bit of a hard time dealing with all the bouncing going on in your stomach.  This can set off a nasty case of heartburn on no time.

And I’m afraid that it’s not just jogging.  Most forms of exercise are going to contract your abdominal region and will end up having the same effect.

At least this is one that is really easy to do something about…Just make sure that you exercise before eating, not after!  Just a little bit of planning can solve this sooo easily.  So remember to have a think before you go out for a run after Sunday’s roast!

2. Smoking really doesn’t help. I hope I don’t have to convince you of the countless health benefits that you’ll experience by quitting smoking.  If you need another reason though, it really will help to reduce your heartburn.

Not really much else to say other than quit!

3. Going to bed after eating.  I mean you’ll be going to bed but you want to make sure that it’s at least 3 hours after you’ve eaten.  This sounds like a long time but it’s really important and easting late is a very western thing.

Overall, we in the western world really don’t think about the importance of food and when we eat it.  But in many other cultures meal times are extremely important. And the evening meal is small and eaten early.

This is in contrast to us who tend to not eat much all day and overload our body with a large, often rich meal and we don’t give our body time to digest it before we lie down.

Then lying down is making it much easier for the stomach acids to move up the gullet  (or oesophagus) and cause heartburn during the night.  So eating your dinner earlier is going to help you in a number of ways, but make sure that you eat at least 3 hours before you go to bed and you’ll get a much better nights sleep.

    4. Overeating is really the biggest contributing factor to heartburn.  From many different angles it’s going to help you heaps losing some weight.  Obesity is a huge contributing factor to heartburn (along with plenty of other not so great effects).

On the other hand at each individual meal you’ll want to make sure that you don’t have too much to eat.  An overfull stomach really puts a lot of pressure on the valve (sphincter) at the top of your stomach and when this happens it tends to let acid go up your throat ie.  Heartburn. So just think about the amount you’re eating and you can prevent a whole lot of discomfort.

So there you have it, they’re simple, easy to follow and they will help prevent heartburn and indigestion, if you follow them.  As an added bonus they should also help you feel better, have more energy and with a little luck live longer (the health benefits of not being an overweight, smoker should be pretty clear).  Good luck and I hope these tips make your life a whole lot nicer to live every day!
