Foods To Eat When Pregnant That Will Ensure A Healthy Pregnancy Diet

Many people see the word diet and think of losing weight when in actual fact, it is more about balancing the food groups and ensuring your body gets the right nutrients and minerals. A healthy diet when pregnant is even more important as there are two of you to consider. But how do you know what's right and wrong? How do you know how much fish to eat etc.? Well read on to find out exactly what foods to eat when pregnant.

Fruit and vegetables are so high in vitamins and nutrients that you should increase your level of intake as soon as you find out you're pregnant. All of these nutrients will not only help you become healthier but will also help your baby develop properly and healthily too. It is important to remember that vitamins such as zinc and vitamin C will help you ward off any infections whilst pregnant and will keep your immune system boosted (perfect for those 9 months when you aren't allowed to take any over the counter medication).

Fibre is very important in anyone's pregnancy diet. Hormones play havoc on the digestive system and contribute to both heartburn and constipation. This can be relieved by increasing the levels of fibre in your diet and ensuring that everything moves as it should. Foods that are high in fibre include jacket potato skins, certain cereals and wholemeal products.

You may notice that in the first three months of your pregnancy (first trimester) and the last three months of your pregnancy (third trimester) you will become quite fatigued. In the first three months it is all to do with hormone imbalances and in the last three months it is usually the sheer amount of pressure and weight that your body has to cope with every day. Either way, it is important for you to keep moving and try to maintain your quality of life as much as possible which is where high energy foods come in. No, not sugar and no, not caffeine. We're talking about bananas, pastas and lots of natural sugar found in fruit to keep you going throughout the day. These foods to eat when pregnant will help you keep control of your energy levels and ensure that you don't turn to caffeine for a fix!

Hopefully you are now more aware of what foods to eat when pregnant and will be able to make an educated judgement when cooking dinner tonight. We hope that you have a wonderful pregnancy and that you enjoy meeting your newborn baby just as much as they will enjoy meeting you!
