Heartburn Right Side Of Chest
Is this indigestion/heartburn?
Sorry if this seems like a really dumb question, but I swear, before I became pregnant I literally NEVER had heartburn or indigestion so I know absolutely nothing about it at all. I have been experiencing painful (burning), acidic burps and whatnot since about 20 weeks, which I assumed was the extent of indigestion. But last night, I had that except for there was also (and still is) a sharp pain in my chest on the right side. It feels like I need to beat on my chest and burp really good, but I can't. It hurts to move my arm a certain way and I couldn't lay on my right side at all last night because it was too painful. I took some Tums, and that helped with the burning burps, but not with this pain in my chest...so is this indigestion (at it's worst!) or could it be something else?
sounds like it. i suffered from indigestion for years and sometimes when the acid gets too high on my chest, it almost feels like i am having a heart attack. In situations like that , ask you doctor if you can take zantac. my doctor said that it is okay to take zantac but it is important to have that communication with your doctor first. Tums neutralizes acid but in situations like that where you are experiencing chest pain, an acid reducer like zantac, pepcid is better. Hope you feel better.

If you're unfamiliar with the actual mechanics of this it all starts in your stomach. Your stomach actually has pretty strong acid in it that is used to help breakdown food for digestion. In theory that acid should stay in the stomach and you'll be fine. The problem is that this acid can actually make it's way up the esophagus which causes heartburn. The acid actually does burn your esophagus and if you don't deal with a severe heartburn problem it will actually eat away your esophagus for good.
Raising awareness among heartburn sufferers is the first step towards getting rid of your indigestion problem. First of all heartburn is associated with indigestion disorders and not your heart!
