dr. don't know whats wrong with me. my right peck mussel hurts pain in my back between shoulder wings.?
right arm and shoulder week. the tip of my middle finger hurts all the time. some times constant and some times throbs. it hurts when i lightly squeeze it. when i sleep arm goes numb but when i move it, it only takes a few seconds to wake back up. had x-rays an mri. all came back good. dr's are stumped.chest and upper back Hurt and feel real stiff when i flex my chest out or bend my shoulders inward. sometimes it hurts if i take a deep breath. i hurt all the time but 2 times it has seemed to get worse after i ate to much. i used to get heartburn all the time but not that much anymore (2 pepcids a day). thank you 4 any help
As a chiropractic intern, I see this at least 3-4 times per week. You have poor posture caused by a muscle imbalance with between your pecs and your middle and lower trapezius muscles. There could also be a joint misalignment in your mid back that could be contributing to your pain.
So you need to strengthen the muscles in the back (middle and lower traps) and lengthen the pecs.
Here is the treatments.
1) Look on line for the way to perform the pectoralis doorway stretch
Here is the way I have my patients do it.
Put your elbow on the edge of a doorway. Lean forward into the doorway (not enough to fall).
If arm/shoulder is at 90 degrees- you are stretching the Pec Major Clavicular
If you lift your arm up to ~ 120 degrees you are stretching the Pec major Sternal
If you arm is at 90 degrees and you rotate your body away from your arm you will stretch the pec minor.
2) Look online for way to strengthen the Middle and lower traps.
Another way to relieve you arm tingling is to get some elastic sports tape. Get into a good posture with your shoulders back. Have someone put a piece of tape on your shoulder blades and pull toward the middle of the back, This will force your body to retrain your posture to pull your shoulder blades back. So far I have done this method on 5 patients and all of them had relief from the tingling. However, be warned, since your middle and lower traps will be used more than they usually are, they will be sore after a few days. But it will help correct the imbalances.
Overall, I would recommend these exercises and to see a chiropractor. He should be able to fix these problems along with these exercises.
