Heartburn Sleep On Side

Laying on my back, is it really that bad?
Lately, I have been having such a hard time falling asleep. I used to love to sleep on my sides, but lately I can't get comfortable like that, but it feels so nice to lay on my back. Im almost 16 weeks though, and everyone always says its bad to lay on your back. Is it really a big deal, will it hurt the baby if I do? Also, any suggestions about how to fall asleep quicker at night. I also have really bad heartburn at night. thanks.
My Ob said it's fine to lay on your back until 20weeks & beyond, after then the weight of the baby etc can press on the vein that returns the blood flow to you & your baby, if you start to feel feint while laying on your back it's time to turn over onto your side (left is a little better than right). What I do to stop from rolling onto my back while I'm sleeping is to lay on my side then wedge a pillow behind me so if I do roll over I'm kinda lop sided & again my Ob says this is enough to take the pressure off the vein.
For heartburn, try a glass of milk, don't eat for at least an hour before bed (avoid spicy foods) & try to prop yourself up in bed a little to help with digestion. If that doesn't work, speak to your Ob about over the counter medications to help with your heartburn.
To fall asleep quicker is a difficult one, perhaps a cup of camomile tea before bed, a warm bath (not too warm), reading always works for me.
Hope this helps!
