Heartburn While Eating

28 wks and getting bad heartburn?
I just turned 28 weeks yesterday (Saturday) and for the past 5-6 weeks i have been getting heartburn every single night. It never fails that i get heartburn no matter what i eat. I could eat fruit all day and still get heartburn. It hits me about 6 pm and lasts most of the night. Some nights are worse than others. I drink a lot of water and chewables help a little, but i have never had heartburn in my life before and now that i am pregnant i get it horribly. Why do women get heartburn while they are pregnant and since i didnt have it before i was pregnant, will it most likely go away once my daughter is born?
Thanks!!
I had heartburn during my pregnancy, and now I have GERD. However, my situation isn't always everyone elses.
During pregnancy, the placenta produces the hormone progesterone, which relaxes the smooth muscles of the uterus. This hormone also relaxes the valve that separates the esophagus from the stomach, allowing gastric acids to seep back up, which causes that unpleasant burning sensation.
Progesterone also slows down the wavelike contractions of your esophagus and intestines, making digestion sluggish. Later in pregnancy, your growing baby crowds your abdominal cavity, pushing the stomach acids back up into the esophagus.
Many women start experiencing heartburn and other gastrointestinal discomforts in the second half of pregnancy. Unfortunately, it usually comes and goes until your baby is born.
