Why do Jehovah's Witnesses discourage critical thinking?

sent me an email telling me to "listen with your heart not your ears." Is this her own idea or do Jehovah's Witnesses in general discourage critical thinking?
I cannot ask her directly because she has email disabled. Maybe other Jehovah's Witnesses can tell me.
Jeremiah 17:9 seems to disagree with this. "The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?" (KJV)
Of course her email was full of things you could only believe if you forbid critical thinking. This sounds like the Mormons when they say "You know what we say is true if you feel a burning in the bosom." Heartburn is apparently a measure of truth.
You really need to elaborate further on what you're looking for an answer to. "Critical thinking" in regards to what?
