How do you know if you've had a heart attack?
I woke up last night with excruciating chest pain. It felt like a vise had clamped down on me. I'm in my early 40s and take heartburn & high blood pressure meds daily. This just didn't feel like heartburn. The pain eventually spread to my head then just faded away. I know I should have woken up my husband, but I didn't want to worry him if it was nothing. Plus I'd be angry at myself for incurring the hospital visit costs for nothing - we just don't have thousands of dollars for unnecessary medical care.
Is it possible I had a heart attack??? I feel absolutely fine this morning. I also feel pretty stupid for not reacting last night.

It's possible, you might go to a cardiologist today to get evaluated, blood tests, & advice. Since you have HBP you're at more risk . Women's symptoms often include pain that creeps up your chest to your jaw.
At time of pain, MDs take blood & check your blood enzymes to see if you're having a heart attack (if they're elevated).
Acid reflux can also cause tightness in chest, but wouldn't go up to your head.
Did you check your blood pressure when it was happening?
Try checking your pressure at bedtime for next week. You ought to be monitoring it daily to see if it is controlled with the meds you're taking.
Next time, immediately take an aspirin; wake your husband & go to ER or call 911. This way you will know what you are dealing with.
