Penicillin Heartburn
Penicillin Heartburn
I have been on antibiotics for 2 weeks, having pregnancy symptoms, did I conceive, or is it the meds?

I have been on the antibiotics (two different ones, this one now, penicillin, and the first smz/tmp ds). I take yaz. During the first meds, I bled like a period about a week and a half earlier than normal. Now I missed my period (because I basically just had one) and i am have BAD cramps and back pain and heartburn. All preg tests are negative.
I can't go by a missed period, cause I had one early just a week and a half ago. Do these medicines give me pregnancy symptoms? or is it just too early?
10 points to who ends up telling me what's right

Antibiotics can cause your birth control to become less effective, and the fact that you had a period makes me think it became pretty darn worthless.

However, it's too early for pregnancy symptoms.

finish your antibiotics, use another form of birth control for the next 30 days, and if you still have symptoms, test then.

Prilosec/omeprazole And How Is It Different From Zantac/ranitidine?

Prilosec (omeprazole) is supplied as delayed-release capsules- the active ingredient is a substituted benzimidazole, 5-methoxy2-[[(4-methoxy-3, 5-dimethyl-2-pyridinyl) methyl] sulfinyl]1H-benzimidazole, a compound that inhibits gastric secretion. Omeprazole is a white to off-white crystalline powder that melts with decomposition, is a weak base and is very slightly soluble in water. constituents

Prilosec Canada (omeprazole) is for oral administration and capsule is made of omeprazole ( 10 mg, 20 mg or 40 mg) in the form of enteric-coated granules along with some inactive ingredients like cellulose, disodium hydrogen phosphate, hydroxypropyl cellulose, hypromellose, lactose, mannitol, sodium lauryl sulfate and other ingredients. The omeprazole granules and inactive ingredients are constituted with water to form a suspension and are given by oral, nasogastric or direct gastric administration.

A patient can start taking Prilosec (over the counter)/generic omeprazole under the direction of a doctor (gastroenterologist).Prilosec(omeprazole) is indicated for  treatment of active duodenal Ulcer (adults), H. Pylori infection, treatment of heartburn and other symptoms associated with GERD(Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease), erosive esophagitis that has been diagnosed by endoscopy in pediatric patients/adults and the long-term treatment of pathological hypersecretory conditions (e.g., Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, multiple endocrine adenomas and systemic masrocytosis) in adults.

Prilosec vs Zantac- Ranitidine,Tagamet,Cimetidine and all others intended to treat reductions in stomach acid belong to the same class of histamine receptor antagonists and work equally. However omeperazole (Prilosec) and lansoprazole (Prevacid) very potent inhibitors of acid secretion and are used by most doctors for treating patients whose symptoms do not respond to Zantac(histamine receptor antagonists).

Prilosec and others like it can cause water weight gain in the feet, hands and especially the mid-section (belly). Some patients have also experienced hair loss, lack of energy and weakening of joints and muscles. Serious and occasionally fatal hypersensitivity (anaphylactic) reactions have been reported in patients on penicillin therapy. Careful inquiry should be made before initiating therapy with amoxicillin and previous hypersensitivity reactions to penicillin, cephalosporin or other allergens.

For patients who have difficulty swallowing capsules, the contents of a Prilosec capsule can be added to applesauce. One Prilosec (omeprazole) capsule should be added in one tablespoon of applesauce .All of the pellets inside the capsule should be carefully emptied and mixed with the applesauce. It is important to continue to take Prilosec(omeprazole) for the prescribed length of treatment even if the symptoms have improved.

Prilosec side effects-Constipation, cough, dizziness or back pain may occur, but notify your doctor or pharmacist promptly if any of these effects persist or worsen. You have been prescribed Prilosec usage by your doctor because they think that the benefit of Prilosec is greater than the risk of side effects. But inform your doctor immediately if any of these highly unlikely but very serious side effects occur: signs of vitamin B-12 deficiency with long-term (over 3 years) treatment (e.g., unusual weakness, sore tongue, numbness or tingling of the hands/feet).

It is unlikely to have a serious allergic reaction to this drug but it is very important to seek immediate medical attention if it occurs.
