Remedy Heartburn Pregnancy

Does anybody have any ideas about why I may be vomiting in my sleep? I am 38 weeks pregnant. ?

I do have an appointment to see my Midwife but it happened again last night and I was too worried to go back to sleep afterwards in case I choked. I have been having lots of heart palpitations but I thought that this was just due to pregnancy as I had them early on in my first pregnancy. I have also been quite breathless but again put this down to pregnancy as the baby's head is not yet engaged. While I am awake I have quite a lot of acid in my throat particularly when I am in the car? I have been using heartburn remedies for this which seem to work for a short while.

Hi there,
Like everyone else, I'd say it's acid reflux as the baby is pressing on your stomach. I have suffered with this since being about 30 weeks pregnant and I'm now 36 weeks (also had it in my first pregnancy). Once the baby engages, which should be soon, you'll have some relief. Until then, try whatever heartburn stuff you can get. Personally, after trying Rennies, Rap-eze, Gaviscon (in 2 flavours of fluid form, and in tablet form), zantac, tesco's own indigestion relief tablets and a few others, I get on best now with a fluid called Peptac, which was actually prescribed to me, but I think you can buy over the counter (it's like Gaviscon but thicker), and Remegel, which are chewy rather than chalky and they're like minty chewits.
I'd also advise keeping a food diary to figure what sets it off most - Anything with onions in makes me feel awful, not to mention greasy, spicy and sweet foods, acidic fruits and carbonated drinks. Try not to eat or drink anything in the 2 hours before bed, when you lie down, it tends to bring the acid up, so if you're stomach is empty, it helps.
Best of luck, you're nearly there!
