Nausea/stomach pain relief?

What did people take in the 1940's-1950's for nausea and stomach pain relief?
I am writing a book and need to know what was the most common nausea/stomach pain relief medicine was back in that day. I thought that sodium bicarbonate was taken, but after reading up on it, I discovered that it was mostly used for heartburn and acid relief. Need help on this one asap. Thank you!
