Can heartburn really cause all this chestpain?

I am still waiting to see the gastro doc next week but i have been on prilosec twice daily and still had heartburn and pain and ended up in the hospital where they ran test and blood and ultra sound on my stomach and everything was fine . I was then put on carafate twice day and nexium which seemed to be working i started to finally feel normal again w/out all the pain and discomformt in my chest and stomach with the exception and slight heartburn and discomfort but nothing like i have been so my reg doc told me to stop the carafate and start taking the zantac 150 twice day with the nexium i started these last night and woke up 4-5 times last night chest pains and burning like befor all day pains and burning in chest and back the doc changed my meds back to carafate twice a day and nexium. Can anyone tell me if they have went through this and what this is and how long this will take to get full relief from the discomfort?
