Chest pain that comes and goes in waves?
This happened last night, I suddenly had a sharp pain in my chest centered around where my heart that lasted about a minute and then went away, about 15 minutes later it came back for about a minute and went away again. I had about 6 or 7 of these "waves" occurring about every 15 minutes. At first I thought it was heartburn as I had some pizza a couple hours earlier, but I've never had heartburn that made me nearly doubled over in pain as this did. I am pretty sure that this pain is not activity related because I had been sitting on the couch watching a movie for at least 30 minutes when this pain started. Also the pain never moved or spread to other parts of the body.
I have never had sharp chest pain like this before. I am 26, don't smoke, don't drink alcohol but once in a while, and I am not overweight in the least (BMI 19.3). I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism 6 years ago, if that is pertinent.
What could this have been, and should I have gone to the ER?
You should go see your primary care physician as soon as possible. It may be nothing such as heart burn or possibly cardiac related. If it continues every 15 minutes you should go to the ER, as it is better to be safe than sorry.
